She never slept on satin, Lord,

Or wore Chantilly lace.

She never owned a diamond,

Or painted up her face.

Her kingdom was her children,

Her rocking chair her throne.

No matter how the world was turning,

She was found at home.

Her beauty was her honesty,

She wore her faith like pearls.

Her song was just a lullaby,

Unheard by all the world.

And the story of her lifetime,

Is just a simple thing.

She never walked with presidents,

She’s walking with the king.

She gave her love to one man,

And only him alone.

If leaving ever crossed her mind,

No one would have known.

She never gave up once although,

We know she had the right.

Her strength came from the one

She prayed to every night.
