Chinese dim sum is really the fastest food on wheels!

During a recent visit to Los Angeles, my sister and I visited The Golden Dragon Restaurant in Chinatown just west of downtown Los Angeles.  We arrived around lunch-time, when dim sum is traditionally served.  To me, dim sum consists of just about any Chinese appetizer you can think of – and many you have never imagined, and all of them very good.

Seating was no problem at the Golden Dragon – the dinning room was the size of a VFW hall in Wisconsin, and most of the people sitting at the tables where Chinese.  All of the offerings are on wheeled carts and servers zip from table to table asking if you would like some of what they offer.  Pot stickers, noodles, soups, rolls, buns, mini barbeque and many other items I don’t know the names of but they looked beautiful in the display.  We pointed, we were given the items on small plates, ate and then pointed and ate some more.  There was a flurry of activity around us and we were entertained as we ate by several near misses with the carts. Practiced patrons knew how to hail a particular cart about as handily as New Yorkers signaling for a cab.  We tried out our hailing technique –and it brought three carts!  (It must be something in the wrist that we just haven’t narrowed down.)    I’m sure the server we finally choose gave us extra just because we attempted to “go native”!

Barely one hour later – entertained and stuffed, we asked for the bill and they tallied up the number of plates on our table.  To eat our fill – with a big pot of hot tea – the price tag for two was $11.50!  Wow, money left over for some Chinese gifts for the girls in the office!

To experience the BlueHighways of Los Angeles’ Chinatown, and dim sum at the Golden Dragon Restaurant, take the N. Broadway exit off of the 101 Freeway. Flat lot parking is close by, and the walk among the shops is fun.
