On the banks of the Arkansas River in the mountains of Colorado, Salida is the perfect BlueHighways TV location. The town has the largest preserved historic district in the state and grew up at the junction of 3 railroad lines, one of which was a narrow gauge rail.
It is a community that supports its arts (and upcoming Art Walk on the fourth Saturday in June) and has a thriving hometown music scene, from the Cajun tunes of the Gumbo Jets to the lively bluegrass of Ashleigh Caudill and Narrow Gauge who recently returned to Salida from a European performance schedule. Bicycle tours peddle through the town that is also a major starting point for a premiere white water paddling event.
The people of Salida also have a heart for helping others. Colorado Farm To Table is a ministry that grows fresh produce for food pantries, soup kitchens and food warehouses in the communities of Salida, Buena Vista, Denver, Alamosa, Leadville, Westcliffe and Montrose. On June 26th Farm To Table will dedicate its new greenhouse, a feature that allows for tender plants to get a head start in a climate prone to frigid dips in spring. BlueHighways TV and Bresnan will assist in putting on this celebration. If you are in the neighborhood drop by the farm around 1:30 in the afternoon and help us celebrate. Cookies, lemonade and music by Narrow Gauge!
We are thankful for all of our blessings.
Salida Chamber of Commerce This web site will give you details on the Whitewater festival, June 17-20, along with one of the premier cycling events Ride The Rockies, June 13-19, and Art Walk on June 26th.
